About

The house IPA at Cala, built on pale ale malt and American hops. Peach, grapefruit and tropical fruit on the nose, amber in the glass. The body is solid enough to hold up the hop bitterness.

Euforia is one of the six beers in Cala's Classiche line. That is the everyday range the brewery opened with after its first brew in July 2022. Milling, brewing, filling and labelling all happen at the plant in Scalea.

The recipe is short. Spring water from the Pollino foothills, barley malt, hops and yeast. Pale ale malt gives the amber colour and the sweetness underneath, and American hops do the rest of the work. The brewery does not name the varieties or publish a bitterness figure.

Drink it cold and reasonably fresh, while that hop aroma is still doing its job. At six point seven percent it is one to sit with rather than line up.

Producer note

Birra Cala is run by the De Caprio family out of Scalea on the Riviera dei Cedri. Antonio De Caprio handles the business, and the brewery keeps every stage in house, from grain to label.
