About
Lower intervention, savoury, far from a generic Merlot. For the curious drinker.
MRLO begins with Merlot from Lennon Vineyard, planted in McLaren Vale in 1994 on black cracking clay. Brash Higgins calls 2021 an abundant and balanced season. A fifteen percent addition of Nero d'Avola brings extra acidity and tannin to the finished blend.
The grapes fermented in amphora and one-tonne open fermenters. After pressing, the wine returned to clay pots for seven months, then spent six months in barrel. Dark cherry and spiced plum sit alongside earthy notes and black tea. It is a good red for roast duck, pork, or lentils with smoky mushrooms.
Producer note
Brad Hickey's Brash Higgins is a McLaren Vale label known for amphora and other lower-intervention winemaking.
