About

Deep herbal layers, savoury edge, long persistence. Sip it neat — too good for a cocktail.

Pellicano is a Calabrian vermouth built from local wines and botanicals, including a Gaglioppo base. Its maker, Cataldo Calabretta, works from Cirò Marina on Calabria's Ionian coast. The project grew from home experiments with recipes and infusions during the pandemic.

Calabretta farms organically and makes its wine without selected yeasts or fermentation activators. Ancient concrete tanks have been restored for cellar work, a fitting link between this vermouth and the winery's local roots. The finished style is full, bittersweet and savoury, with a long herbal finish. Serve it cold over ice with orange peel, or use it where a serious red vermouth is needed. It stands up well to a simple tonic too.
