About
Richer botanical profile with spice, citrus, fuller texture. More intense than classic London Dry styles.
Generous comes out of Ôdevie, a small house at La Rochefoucauld in the Cognac region of France. The black-and-white bottle with the Tree of Life motif is their Original bottling, the one they call Fresh and Aromatic. It took a gold medal as best gin at Brussels in 2015.
The botanicals are juniper, citrus, mandarin, red pepper, jasmine and elderflower, all natural. Some are macerated and some are run through small pot stills, then brought together at 44 percent. Juniper leads the nose but the white flowers soften it. Citrus and spice carry the palate, and the red pepper is what lingers on the finish.
The house built it for a gin and tonic, so start there. It also holds its own in a Negroni, where that pepper note cuts through the vermouth.
