About
Real Cab character — blackberry, mint, fine tannin. The Great Southern's cool climate gives it shape.
West Cape Howe's home block is the Langton vineyard, ten minutes west of Mount Barker on the Muir Highway. It was planted in 1978, which makes it some of the most mature vine stock in the Great Southern. Cabernet is one of the main plantings across its 100 hectares. The company also runs the 210-hectare Russell Road vineyard at Frankland River and buys fruit from Porongurup and the Perth Hills.
The business started in 1997 and is owned by four Western Australian families. Gavin Berry has been managing partner and senior winemaker since 2004, with more than 30 Great Southern vintages behind him. The vineyards run on organic principles with minimal herbicide, and the winery is powered in part by solar panels.
This is a straightforward cool-climate cabernet for the table. Lamb chops, a steak or a hard cheese will do the job.
