About
100% Marsanne from granite and alluvial slopes in the northern Rhone, made by Cave de Tain, the grower co-operative at the foot of the Hermitage hill founded in 1933. Stainless-steel fermentation keeps it fresh and lively: pale yellow with green reflections, a richly expressive bouquet of white daisy flowers and citrus, then ripe peach, jasmine and gentle minerality with zesty fruit through the finish. Jeb Dunnuck rated it 92 points. Serve well chilled.
This Marsanne comes from the Collines Rhodaniennes, east of the northern Rhône crus. Cave de Tain works vineyards across alluvial, sandy, clay-limestone and granite soils there. The variety is closely tied to this part of the Rhône, and granite gives the wine a useful mineral edge.
Stainless-steel fermentation keeps the 2020 focused and free of oak weight. White flowers and citrus lead into peach and jasmine, with a zesty finish. Cave de Tain was founded in 1933 as a grower cooperative at the foot of Hermitage hill. Its members still make wine from the region's key sites. Serve well chilled with roast chicken, firm white fish, or a creamy vegetable gratin.
Producer note
Cave de Tain is the leading co-operative of the northern Rhone — over 300 grower-members farming around 1000 hectares from its base in Tain-l'Hermitage.
