About
Refined, complex, highly sought after globally. Layered fruit, oak and spice with exceptional balance and finesse.
Yamazaki was Japan's first whisky distillery. Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, built it in 1923 at Shimamoto in Osaka Prefecture, on the edge of Kyoto. He appointed Masataka Taketsuru factory director in 1924. The first whisky came off the site in 1929. Torii is still called the father of Japanese whisky, and the distillery keeps a library of more than 7000 bottles from its own history.
The 12 Year Old is where most people meet the house style. Some of it matures in mizunara, the Japanese oak, and that aroma is the signature over the soft fruit. It is bottled at 43 percent. It is the most popular single malt in Japan and is sold in more than 35 countries.
Drink it neat, or the Japanese way as a highball with plenty of ice and cold soda.
