About

Grenache from three blocks of Alkina's certified organic and biodynamic farm in the Barossa, and nothing like the old jammy stereotype. The 2024 is light on its feet, layering rose petal, spice and blood orange skin over a palate that bursts with cranberry fruit and red-apple acidity, finished by fine but persistent mouth-coating tannin. Each block was hand-picked, naturally fermented in concrete tulips with 80% whole bunches, spent around 35 days on skins, then matured entirely in concrete — no oak flavour anywhere in it.

Kin comes from three estate blocks on Alkina's certified organic and biodynamic farm at Greenock. The Grenache grows across schist and limestone soils. Alkina farms 43 hectares on Ngadjuri Country, with its oldest vines planted in the 1950s.

Each block ferments separately in concrete tulips with 80 per cent whole bunches. The wine spends about a month on skins, then is basket pressed back to concrete until blending. Gismondi notes wild strawberry, scrubby herbs and white pepper, while the product data records rose petal, blood orange, cranberry and red-apple acidity. Chalky tannin gives the finish a firm frame.

Producer note

Alkina is a new story on an old place: a certified organic and biodynamic farm on the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri people, with 43 hectares of Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro and Semillon, the oldest vines dating from the 1950s.
