About
100% Pinot Noir from Stefano Lubiana's certified biodynamic estate vineyards in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania. Mostly wild-fermented from hand-picked, hand-sorted fruit with some whole bunches, basket-pressed after about three weeks and matured in older oak. Light-bodied, with strawberry, cherry and raspberry fruit up front, gentle spice and soft, velvety tannins running through a fresh, juicy palate.
Most of the fruit comes off the home vineyard at Granton in the Derwent Valley. A small portion comes from Cradoc in the Huon Valley. Granton was Tasmania's first certified biodynamic vineyard. It has been farmed that way since 2010, with no synthetic treatments, additives or pesticides. The Lubianas are sixth-generation family farmers, and the estate sums itself up in six words: low cropping, minimal intervention, no synthetics.
The 2024 season gave lower yields and plenty of concentration. That suits a house that keeps crop levels down on purpose. Stefano Lubiana says Pinot Noir needs a true cool climate, but also discipline and careful attention, or the flavour thins out.
Drink it young, though it will hold for a few years in the cellar. Roast duck or a mushroom dish are the obvious matches. The winery pitches it at white wine drinkers and Burgundy fans alike.
Producer note
Made annually since 1993, the 2024 release is the estate's 31st vintage of Primavera Pinot Noir. Stefano Lubiana farms its Derwent Valley vineyards biodynamically.
