About
Grenache grown at Box Grove on the Goulburn, blended with Zinfandel and Negroamaro. Two weeks on skins and then straight to stainless steel, which keeps the fruit loud and the tannins soft. Red berries, pomegranate and blood orange, at under eleven percent.
The fruit grows at Box Grove in the Nagambie Lakes, on the Goulburn River. Red granite sand sits there over old layers of river gravel. Each variety is picked and fermented separately. The wine is destemmed, given two weeks on skins, then pressed into stainless steel tanks to finish.
Fin Wines is based at Dixons Creek in the Yarra Valley, so this one takes them a good way north for fruit. The founders do the farming, the winemaking, the selling and the deliveries around Victoria themselves. Ferments run wild, nothing is fined or filtered, and the wine goes into bottle within about five months of harvest.
Drink it cold. This is a chilled red in the proper sense, a bottle for a hot afternoon that asks nothing of you.
Producer note
Fin Wines is a Dixons Creek fermentation collective in the Yarra Valley whose founders handle everything from the vineyard rows to the delivery run. For this bottle they go outside the valley for fruit, north to the Goulburn.
