About
Julian Castagna's biodynamic estate Sangiovese rosé. Cherry, wild strawberry, dried herbs, mineral edge, dry finish. Built for the table — pizza, pasta, charcuterie. The rosé for people who normally find rosé boring.
Allegro comes from Castagna's Beechworth estate, high in the foothills of the Australian Alps. The vineyard sits about 500 metres above sea level on decomposed granitic loam, with quartz over clay. The family has farmed it biodynamically from the beginning.
The estate hand-prunes and hand-picks its fruit, then relies on indigenous yeast and minimal handling in the winery. The 2022 has a deeper colour than many rosés, with a copper and amber cast. Its shape comes from savoury phenolics rather than simple fruitiness. Julian and Adam Castagna make this as a table wine with real grip. Pour it cool beside pizza, pasta, charcuterie, or a plate of grilled vegetables.
Producer note
Castagna is one of Beechworth's defining producers (Julian and Adam Castagna), certified biodynamic. Allegro is their dedicated estate rosé from Sangiovese — a serious wine in pink colour.
