About
A wine alternative from the Sydney label Doom Juice, under 0.5% alcohol. It is made with organically grown Shiraz and Chardonnay from the Central Ranges in New South Wales, and it is built rather than de-alcoholised. Cherry, blueberry and blackberry, meant to be drunk cold and fizzy.
The fruit is Shiraz and Chardonnay, grown organically in the Central Ranges of New South Wales. It comes through Windowrie, an early mover in organic viticulture there.
What goes into the bottle starts as pomace, the skins and solids left in the press once a wine has been made. Dry grape juice is washed over those Chardonnay and Shiraz skins, so colour and flavour come back out of something most wineries throw away. Nothing is stripped out afterwards, which is why the grape character still tastes like itself. The result is certified organic and sustainable, it is vegan, and no sulphur is added.
Treat it as a chilled sparkling red. Serve it cold and put it next to pizza, charcuterie or anything off the barbecue.
Producer note
Doom Juice is a Sydney label started in 2020 by Sebastian Keys and Zachary Godbolt, known for smashable organic natural wine and the line made in hell. ZZVINO is their low alcohol project, made with Windowrie.
