About
Collection 246 is the house's 246th blend since its foundation: 54% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 11% Meunier, built on 2021 base wines with 30% perpetual reserve going back to 2012 and 10% young-vine juice from Cristal plots aged in cask. The bouquet gives mirabelle plum, nectarine and candied lemon, with vanilla toast from the 24% of wines vinified in French oak foudres and a fine reductive shellfish note. The palate is light and delicate — peach and pollen, soft creamy bubbles, savoury dry-chalk grip — finishing serene with the Perpetual Reserve's smoky, toasty lift.
Collection exists because of the weather. Chef de cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon retired Brut Premier when warmer harvests started giving him riper fruit with less acidity. Instead of chasing the same house recipe every year, each numbered release is built around the character of its base vintage. The perpetual reserve started in 2012 is what holds the thread between them.
The 246 sits on the 2021 harvest, a brutal year in Champagne. Spring frost, rain and mildew cut yields hard, but what survived came in fresh, pure and high in acid, picked between 13 and 30 September. Only 30 percent of the lots went through malolactic, so that acid stays intact. The wine spent three years on lees, was dosed at 7 grams per litre and disgorged in January 2025.
Serve it well chilled. It drinks well now and will hold for eight years or more.
