About
Long ageing delivers deep oak, spice, dark caramel — serious length. For bourbon drinkers who like it big.
Widow Jane does not distil this bourbon. The whisky is sourced as straight bourbon from Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, though the distilleries are not disclosed. The team on Conover Street in Red Hook, Brooklyn, blends it five barrels at a time. It is bottled at 91 proof, or 45.5 percent, and is not chill filtered.
The New York part is the water. Every batch is cut to strength with limestone mineral water drawn from the Widow Jane mine at Rosendale, about 100 miles north of the city. Rosendale limestone built the caissons of the Brooklyn Bridge and the pedestal under the Statue of Liberty. The brand takes its name from that mine.
The palate runs to orange, maple, cherry and almond before the charred-oak finish. Pour it neat, or over one large cube if you want it to open up.
