Amphora-aged McLaren Shiraz, lower intervention, lifted, savoury. Real character — far from generic Aussie Shiraz.
SHZ comes from twenty-five-year-old Shiraz vines at Brash Higgins' organically farmed Omensetter Vineyard. The site has red clay loam over limestone. Its position near the Gulf of St Vincent helps moderate warm days in McLaren Vale.
The 2021 used a portion of whole bunches, then fermented with wild yeast in small open vessels for three weeks. It was basket pressed and matured in new and older French oak for twenty months. Black plum, blood orange, paprika and liquorice meet rustic tannin. Pour it with lamb shoulder, grilled eggplant, or a smoky barbecue.
