About
Classically pale rosé of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault off the dry, high-altitude slopes of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Pale salmon-onion-skin in colour, it lifts out peach, raspberry and blood orange over stony mineral notes and savoury alpine herbs. The palate is light and crunchy with a fleshy core of red berries and a slippery textural feel, closing on brisk acidity and a dry, tangy, faintly spicy finish. Drink it now.
The blend is Grenache and Syrah in equal parts, 40 percent each, with Cinsault making up the last 20. This is an IGP wine rather than an appellation rosé, and it comes from the mountain end of Provence. The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence sit well inland and well above the coastal vineyards most people picture. Those higher, drier slopes are why the wine tastes of herbs and cold stone rather than sunshine.
Look for a faintly muscat-like lift on the nose, with strawberry and raspberry underneath. It is a wine every retailer who stocks it describes as serious value, and that matches what we taste.
Serve it cold. Summer salads, grilled prawns or fish, a plate of charcuterie, and goat's cheese all suit it. Buy it for this summer rather than the next one.
