750mlAbout
Bitter orange, herbs, spice, clean refreshing finish. Built for a spritz on a summer afternoon.
Airone Rosso is built on vermouth. Poli infuses spices and aromatic herbs into wine and a bitter liqueur, then blends the two. It comes out at 17% alcohol. The nose is red roses with tangerine and blood orange around them.
The name is a motorbike. In 1950 Giovanni Poli gave his son Toni a 250cc Moto Guzzi Airone Sport. Airone means heron. The next year Toni rode it across Europe, and when he got home to Schiavon the town threw a party. It opened with an aperitif as red as the bike, made for the night. This is that drink.
The Polis have been in Schiavon since 1885, when GioBatta opened the Osteria al Cappello. The distillery followed on the same premises in 1898. Pour it over ice, or use it as the red half of a spritz.
