About
Big, ripe, fruit-driven Californian Zinfandel. The classic American BBQ red.
Rebel Ridge is a young label based in San Ramon, California, with its Zinfandel vines in the Lodi area. The founders call themselves three rebels who met on a mountain ridge, tired of a few big companies setting prices and stifling new ideas. The stated goal is the best Zin for human money.
The head winemaker trained in Valpolicella, home of Amarone, and came to California for the sunshine. The house style is full-on fruit with no pretence about it. Grapes are sorted carefully and picked at night, which keeps the fruit fresh on its way to the winery.
Take it to the barbecue. The winery points to braised meats and spicy dishes, and it will handle sticky pork ribs or a burger with hot sauce without complaint. Serve it a little cooler than room temperature and drink it over the next couple of years.
