About
Citrus, orchard fruit and fine minerality with balanced acidity and a clean finish. Elegant and consistent — a classic Rheingau style.
The Künstler story starts a long way from the Rhine. The family made wine in South Moravia from 1648, lost everything after the war, and Franz Künstler started again in Hochheim am Main in 1965. His son Gunter bottled his first vintage at 19, in 1982, and has run the place since 1992. Today it farms 42 hectares of light clay loam at the very eastern tip of the Rheingau.
This is the estate wine, the one that shows the house style without a single-vineyard name. The fruit comes off limestone-rich sites where loess, loam and gravel give texture and freshness. It is picked by hand and pressed gently. Most of the ferment happens in stainless steel to keep the fruit bright. A small portion goes to large neutral oak for a little more weight. It then rests six months on fine lees before going under screwcap.
Producer note
Künstler is one of the leading estates in Rheingau, producing precise, terroir-driven wines.
