About

Charlie O'Brien's Silent Noise Heaven's House Party Pet Nat blends Pinot Grigio and Shiraz from McLaren Vale, made organically with low sulphur and minimal intervention using the ancestral pét-nat method. Nectarine, dried apricot and lychee lead the nose, with peach, white strawberry, an Angostura Bitters-like spice note and a lingering Turkish Delight finish on the palate. Best served well chilled.

Heaven's House Party is a father-and-son label. Kevin O'Brien runs Kangarilla Road in McLaren Vale and Charlie runs Silent Noise. They describe the project as making wine for "right here, right now". The first release carried the tag Party Animal #1, and the 2022 is that release.

Pét-nat means the wine goes into bottle before its first ferment has finished, so the last of the sugar becomes the fizz. Charlie learned his craft from his parents in the region, and the fruit is farmed organically. The wine is vegan, low in sulphur and handled with minimal intervention, which is why it can look a little hazy in the glass. Nothing is wrong with it.

Chill it hard and open it outside, ideally on a beach, which is what the makers had in mind. It drinks well on its own, or with prawns, spicy food and fruit desserts.

Producer note

Charlie O'Brien built Silent Noise as his own label alongside his family's Kangarilla Road winery in McLaren Vale, making his first wine — a shiraz — while still in high school. He farms a section of the family vineyard organically, without herbicides or pesticides, and says his approach is to let the fruit lead rather than over-work the winemaking.
