About
Produced from Usher Tinkler's dedicated Prosecco vineyard in Pokolbin — Glera vines grafted onto 30-year-old Semillon rootstock rather than planted from scratch, making this one of the few Hunter Valley-grown Proseccos. A crisp, easygoing sparkling white built for casual drinking, fresh and floral rather than ceremonial.
La Volpe is Italian for the fox. The importer calls this the first Prosecco both grown and made in the Hunter Valley. That is a fair claim in a region built on Semillon and Shiraz.
It is made in the Charmat method, which means the second ferment happens in tank rather than in the bottle. The fruit is destemmed and pressed into stainless steel, fermented, then bottled young so none of the freshness is lost. The finish is dry. Usher's note picks up ripe nashi pear, apple and elderflower, with a mineral edge under the bubbles. Green apple, citrus and white blossom sit on top. It is sealed under cork.
Chill it hard and pour it as the first drink of the night. Snacks, seafood or nothing at all, the winery says.
Producer note
Usher Tinkler farms this vineyard specifically for Prosecco, grafting the Glera onto three-decade-old Semillon vines instead of a fresh planting — an unusual approach for a region built on Semillon and Shiraz.
